Every once in awhile, you see a child and think, "She must have everyone she meets wrapped around her little finger." Mattingly is one of those special children. She's an adorable 18-mo. old little flirt who recently came in for her third visit to the studio.
As I usually do when small children come to the studio, I don't even go near the camera, opting instead to sit on the floor and play a little bit and let them walk all around the studio to explore and get used to their surroundings. Mattingly's mom and grandparents came in for this session, so I was the only stranger in the studio, and she felt comfortable pretty soon after arriving. So comfortable so that she immediately thought she had the run of the place, and walked all over. With the wink of an eye, I always ask the parent if they object to stapling the child's feet to the floor. However, having them run all over really brings out their personality, and eventually...if you are persistent long enough...they will be curious enough about you to come over and pay attention to what you are doing. That's the pay off. And Mattingly hit this one out of the park.
